The "Reader" name. Where does it come from and what does it mean?
Many say that family names originated from the trades that the families were in. In the case of the Readers it could have came from the thatching of roofs with reeds or the following of readings or the association with literature wether it was writing, publishing or printing or reading to official parties.
Many thanks:
To all the family members and the Canterbury Library who have offered information and photographs to make this collection possible; This website looks at the family history of the Reader family in England and New Zealand from Joseph Reader In Middlesex, London to New Zealand 2001.
