Reader's Book

 Harriott Glady’s was born on the 29th of October 1887 in Ellesmere and baptised on the 18th of December 1887 in Leeston.

She was also known as Auntie Glad to most.

Glady’s married Frederick Francis Ralfe on the 20th of May 1908 at Stratford, Taranaki, New Zealand.

They moved to Bulls and opened up a General store in the main street where they lived in a large house with a farm type section which included a cow or two. The house had lovely character with lots of bedrooms, Norine Stewart can remember staying there and helping out with separating the milk after it was collected. Once separated they would make butter.

Glady’s made luxurious ice-cream as Norine’s family didn’t have the luxury of owning a icebox as the war was still on.

In the war they used to make camouflage nets and roll bandages. The whole family liked playing tennis.

In the 1950’s Glady’s and Fred moved to Tauranga to be with the rest of their relatives. Later on Zelda Moved in to live with them.

Galdy’s and Fred had four children, Zelda Glady’s, Peter, Maureen Frances, and Pilcher Brian.

Glady’s died on the 11th of February 1974 and was buried at Tauranga cemetery
